Using the Isolation Layer for Sound Footing Turntable Shelf System
| The optional isolation layer accessory allows the
TT125's or TT150's granite platform and your turntable to be acoustically isolated from the
wood shelf support.
The isolation layer is comprised of a shelf (MDF core with real wood
veneer) and an array of Sorbothane hemispheres. The bottom of the
isolation layer shelf has steel disc inserts which rest on the TT125's
or TT150's leveling screws, allowing for precision leveling. An array of Sorbothane
hemispheres is affixed to the top of the shelf, and the granite platform
rests on the hemispheres. Sorbothane material is one of the best materials available for vibration isolation. Properly loaded 1.25" Sorbothane hemispheres will provide a sub-audible natural frequency, as shown on the load curve to the right. The result is excellent vibration isolation throughout the 20-20,000Hz audible frequency range. For an isolated turntable mount to be effective, it is imperative that the isolated portion is heavy so there is sufficient inertia to resist airborne vibrations and any vibrations caused by the turntable power supply and motor. Our granite platform helps to provide this inertia, along with the weight of your turntable. Additional weight can be evenly distributed on the granite platform next to your turntable. We recommend attaching any weights with wall-tack material. The Sorbothane hemispheres should be placed in an evenly spaced array to support the granite. The number of hemispheres required can be determined from the chart to the right. The weight of the granite is approximately 50 lbs. in the TT125, and 60 lbs. in the TT150. Recommended patterns are shown below:
